+ New Mexico School for the Arts
This charter school master plan uses New Mexico's natural climate and ecology to give its campus an architectural identity. The master plan calls for a series of courtyards organized a central corridor that runs west to east towards the Atalaya Mountains. This courtyard design utilizes the gently south-sloping landscape to its fullest potential but maximizing sunlight during the winter and minimizing it during the winter. The courtyard design further adds a level of security, one of the clients' key concerns. A variety of master plans were proposed with the central courtyard construction as the driving force, but it wasn't until a core central corridor was introduced that the site was tied together between the two sides split by Alumni Drive.
